
The emergence of strategic pillars of the Greek economy that bring goodwill and are a growth lever, was the strategic goal of Greek participation in the Expo Dubai 2020.
In this international exhibition, Greece, under the responsibility of Enterprise Greece, highlighted eight areas with growth potential: technology / innovation, energy, shipping, tourism / culture, human capital, industry, agri-food and health sciences.
As is well-known, the strategic advantage of our country is Tourism, general and thematic, and in this context the cultural and historical wealth of the country was presented, as well as the possibilities of thematic tourism, but also the investments in tourism.
Specifically, during her visit to EXRO 2020 Dubai, the General Secretary of Tourism Policy and Development, Olympia Anastassopoulou, toured the Greek pavilion and addressed selected representatives of tourism organizations, presenting the holistic tourism experience offered by Greece year round.
In particular, Ms. Anastassopoulou pointed out the need for targeted promotion of our country in areas where we have a comparative advantage such as city breaks / greek-ends, gastronomic and cultural tourism, wellness tourism, but also maritime tourism and yachting.
At the same time, the Secretary General held talks with government officials in the tourism sector, such as Mr. Issam Kazim, CEO of the Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, with the aim of reactivating the action plan of the Memorandum signed between Greece and the UAE, promoting alternative destinations in our country, but also special forms of Tourism, as well as the excellent prospects of cooperation in the fields of maritime tourism.
In addition, a meeting was held with Mr. Issam Ahmed Abughazyain and Dr. Fabiana Maccarini, representatives of P&O Marinas, a member of the DP World Group, one of the largest multinational port management and logistics groups, for the prospects of cooperation with the aim of remodeling and managing tourist ports of strategic importance in our country.
Finally, Ms. Anastassopoulou met with Mr. Bob Kabli, a senior executive of Emirates, as well as with representatives of the two largest tour operators in the country, Emirates Holidays and Dnata respectively. Emily Jenkins and Meerah Kermit, with the aim of promoting bilateral economic and trade relations and with an emphasis on attracting investment.
