
The turnover of both the accommodation and the food service sector recorded a significant increase in January 2022, according to Hellenic Statistical Authority ELSTAT, a sign of the recovery of the Greek economy.
For the enterprises in Accommodation Activities obliged to double-entry bookkeeping, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in January 2022 amounted to 67,460,725 euro, recording an increase of 246.4% in comparison with January 2021, when the respective turnover was 19,476,243 euro. For the enterprises of the Regional Units with a contribution to the total
turnover of the year 2020 greater than 1.0% (Table 1), the biggest increase in the turnover of January 2022 compared with January 2021 was recorded in the Regional Unit Lassithi (1,042.5%) and the smallest increase (70.2%) was recorded in the Regional Unit Rethymno.
For the enterprises in Food and Beverage Service Activities obliged to double-entry bookkeeping, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in January 2022 amounted to 97,665,586 euro, recording an increase of 83.8% in comparison with January 2021, when the respective turnover was 53,126,192 euro. For the enterprises of the Regional Units with a contribution to the total turnover of the year 2020 greater than 1.0% (Table 2), the biggest increase in the turnover of January 2022 compared with January 2021 was recorded in the Regional Unit Thira (797.7%) and the smallest increase was recorded in the Regional Unit Chalkidiki (13.4%).
