Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis spoke with United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday and “discussed additional ways to assist Ukraine as it defends itself against Russia’s unprovoked and brutal war,” according to a State Department statement.

Blinken thanked Greece for its “steadfast support to Ukraine, including Greece’s strong sanctions enforcement and its extensive humanitarian and defensive assistance,” the statement said, while they also discussed the upcoming meeting of the 3+1 mechanism (Greece, Cyprus, Israel & the US) to strengthen energy and economic cooperation between the participants and advance regional stability and prosperity. “The US-Greece relationship has never been stronger or more important,” Blinken added in a tweet.

In a tweet in the English language, the Greek premier said he had had a “constructive discussion” with Blinken. “Greece and the US continue our close coordination as NATO Allies against Russia’s unprovoked military attacks on Ukraine,” he added.
