More than two million passengers passed through the Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport of Athens in May 2022, 10 percent less than in May 2019, a “banner year” for Greek tourism and the last before the pandemic.
However, compared with Covid-battered 2020, passenger traffic increased by a whopping 254 percent.
In absolute terms, 2.05 million passengers passed through the airport, Greece’s busiest and largest, last month.
Over the first five months of the year, passenger traffic reached 6.5 million, down 24.4 percent from 2019, the “gold standard” for Greek tourism.
