The fire brigade on Sunday continued to record the damage inflicted by the wildfire in the Athens suburbs of Glyfada and Voula the previous day, while fire fighters remained in the area in case the flames rekindled.
The damage recorded so far is restricted to one area in Ano Voula where 10 homes have sustained damage, while one car and motorcycle have been completely incinerated and another two cars have been damaged. Most damage is external and concerns fixtures such as solar heaters, awnings, guttering and garden equipment, though one home sustained serious damage to its interior and a second sustained damage to the roof. The fire brigade has not completed listing damages, while a separate record of damages is being made by the municipality and region. While contained in both Ano Voula and Vari, without actively burning fronts and in no danger of spreading, the fire is not yet considered fully under control. Water-bombing aircraft took off from Elefsina on Sunday afternoon to conduct surveillance and drop water on inaccessible areas if necessary, in order to assist the forces on the ground.
