Representatives of the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) were prominently present at this week’s Posidonia’s maritime exhibition in Athens, amid an increasingly crucial juncture for ocean-going shipping, in general, and the tourism-related cruise sector, specifically.

Among others, Clia’s director general for Europe, Marie-Caroline Laurent, referred to the sector’s increasing shift to a “greener” operation, such as greater environmental protection and sustainable growth.

In line with the rest of the shipping industry’s ambitious goal of zero carbon emissions by 2050, CLIA officials promised significant investment in new vessels with more eco-friendly technology.

According to figures circulated during Posidonia, 178 new cruise ships are on order until 2027, with a value corresponding to 47 billion euros. Moreover, a 93 percent of new orders are being built in European shipyards.
