The referral to the Special Court in order to stand trial is the proposal the deputy prosecutor for the former minister Dimitris Papagelopoulos and the three prosecutors who were responsible for the Corruption Prosecutor’s Office headed by prosecutor Eleni Touloupaki for the handling of the Novartis case.
The prosecutor in a four hundred page long proposal to the Judicial Council, proposes that the former Deputy Minister of Justice, Dimitris Papagelopoulos, be brought to trial before the Special Court, along with then head prosecutor, Eleni Touloupaki, who handled the preliminary investigation, as well as assistant prosecutors Christos Ntzouras and Stelios Manolis.
The charges against them are related to the handling of the Prosecutor’s Office regarding the ten politicians involved in the Novartis case.
Regarding the allegations of businessman Sabby Mionis for extortionate practices against him by Dimitris Papagelopoulos and journalists who had given depositions to the special investigator, the proposal of the prosecutor is for complete acquittal.
The members of the Judicial Council of the Special Court have the last reason for the referral or not of the accused.
