
The Minister of Rural Development and Food, George Georgantas, spoke about the spike in prices for basic consumer goods on MEGA television. The minister spoke remotely as he recently came down with covid.

“There is enough grain in the Greek market,” said the Minister adding that the supply chain is working very well, and other markets, like Bulgaria, from where Greece bought wheat are supplying additional quantities to make up for losses from Ukraine and Russia. Mr. Georgantas noted that domestic production is going well despite some problems with hail.
We have enough sunflower oil for the next five months
Referring to sunflower oil, and what is the situation with it, the Minister of Rural Development and Food explained that we will know in about 20 days, how many more acres have been cultivated with sunflower this year sunflower, although there is an inkling that there will be additional crops of both sunflower oil and common wheat, this year.
Any temporary lack of sunflower oil the minister attributed to unnecessary hoarding. Mr. Georgantas noted that the new sunflower harvest will be at at the end of August, and voiced his belief that the price would return to near pre-crisis levels.
“100 million to support stockbreeders & farmers from the EU”
Regarding the increased production costs faced by farmers, and whether the EU envisages strengthening them, Mr Georgantas noted the government’s interventions and especially the 15-cent discount at the pump for diesel and the reduction of VAT on animal feed and fertilizers. He also noted that using European resources, it will be possible to give 100 million for stock breeders and farmers.
