
Container traffic in the port of Piraeus fell by 9.5% in the five months of January-May 2022.
According to data published by Cosco Shipping Ports, during this period a total of 1,786 million containers were handled from piers II and III of the Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT), while in the corresponding period of 2021 a total of 1,974 million containers were handled (down by 9.5%). .
Also, in May 2022, a total of 391,700 containers were handled by the PCT, compared to 416,500 in May 2021 (a decrease of 6%).
In January 2022, a total of 386,800 TEUs were handled by the two piers, 349,300 in February, 362,000 in March and 296,600 in April.
The drop in container traffic in the port of Piraeus is attributed, according to experts in the field of logistics, to the restrictive measures against the pandemic in China.
