Results of an opinion poll released on Wednesday show that a majority of respondents believe a snap election will take place in Greece in September or October this year, with the economy dominating the coming race.

The opinion poll, conducted by the Alco firm, show that ruling New Democracy (ND) party’s lead over main opposition Syriza remains at 8.5 percentage points.

Specifically, in the voter preference question (of valid responses), center-right ND is given 30.2 percent, down from 31.1 percent last month. Leftist Syriza is preferred by 21.7 percent of respondents, down from 22.6 percent last month.

A resurgent PASOK-KINAL party is given 12.4 percent (12.7 percent in June 2022), while the same trio of smaller parties in the current Parliament are shown above the 3-percent threshold (of valid votes in a general election) needed for representation in the legislature.

The “undecided” figure stands at 14.1 percent, while 5.6 percent of respondents picked another political party.
