Scheduled summer sales start on Monday, July 11 and end on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, with the Athens Chamber of Commerce (ESA) reminding that the shops can optionally remain open on Sunday, July 17, 2022, with 11:00 – 18:00 being the hours proposed by the Athens Chamber of Commerce.
On the occasion of the imminent start of the sales period, the president of the Athens Chamber, Stavros Kafounis, made reference to the current difficult times as well as the attractive prices being offered as a recompense, noting that consumers can find all categories of products and combine shopping with entertainment.
Given the limited disposable income, this year’s sales are more necessary than ever and everyone is eagerly awaiting them, consumers to cover their needs with less money, businesses to see greater receipts and the economy to take a breather, putting a brake on price hikes, increasing consumption and therefore growth.
What you should watch out for
According to the Athens Chamber of Commerce, commercial enterprises should pay particular attention to the following:
– The listing of a double price, i.e. the old (deleted) and the new, reduced price of all items sold at a discount is mandatory.
– The indication and commercial communication of a discount rate is also allowed.
– If a reduced price is provided on more than 60% of all items sold, the demonstration of the provided discount rate is mandatory, so it should be indicated on the shop window and in any other commercial communication.
– In the event that there are different discount rates per product category, the range of the provided rate should be indicated (“from …. % to …. %”).
– In any other case, it will be stated that the discounts concern selected items, with reference to the corresponding percentage.
– Shopkeepers should, in the event of an audit, be able to prove that the old selling price on the sign corresponds to reality.
