
A spike in the turnover of both the accommodation and food service sectors was recorded by Hellenic Statistical Authority – ELSTAT for the month of May.
More specifically, an increase of 449 million euros or by 424.6% was recorded by the turnover of the country’s businesses, which are obliged to double-entry accounting bookkeeping and for which data are available on a monthly basis, that are active in the accommodation sector in May this year and reached to 554,879,061 euros, against 105,780,741 euros in May 2021.
Also according to ELSTAT, for businesses in the catering-food service sector, which are obliged to double-entry accounting bookkeeping and for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in May this year amounted to 179,125,643 euros, marking an increase of 64.6% compared to May 2021, by 108,852,969 euros.

Cumulatively for the businesses of these two branches, which are obliged to double-entry accounting bookkeeping and for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in May 2022 amounted to 734,004,704 euros, marking an increase of 242% compared to May 2021, by 214,633,710 euros.
For the businesses of the Regional Units with a contribution to the total turnover in 2021 greater than 1%, the largest increase was observed in the Regional Unit of Zakynthos (1,122.7%) and the smallest (57%) was recorded in the Regional Unit of Evia.
