The contract for the further upgrading of Chios airport was signed today in the presence of the Ministers of Infrastructure and Transport Mr. Kostas Karamanlis, Mr. Notis Mitarachi of Immigration & Asylum and the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, responsible for infrastructure, Mr. Giorgos Karagiannis.
The new projects, with a budget of 9.6 million euros plus VAT, concern the expansion and improvement of the building and electromechanical facilities of the “Omiros” Airport terminal.
The project is financed by the NSRF 2014-2020, through the Operational Program “Transport Infrastructures, Environment and Sustainable Development”.
The project
The object of the project is the expansion, restructuring, repair and improvement of the building facilities of the State Airport of Chios.
It includes the expansion and improvement projects of the existing airport related to the infrastructure for the provision of aeronautical services, i.e. the part of these works (structural, hydraulic, mechanical, etc.) related to the configuration of the passenger service areas, the CAA offices, control offices, etc., not including work for areas of commercial use (shops, third party offices and storage, ticket offices, etc.) and food service and refreshment uses.
Infrastructure for commercial and food service uses
It concerns the infrastructure of commercial and food service uses and includes the necessary construction works for the food service and commercial use areas of the airport.
The main functions of the Airport, such as ticket control, passport control, pre-boarding waiting area, arrivals waiting area, baggage handling and Arrival Reception area, have been designed based on the new area of the building (1673.27m² total construction of the ground floor & new floor space for offices 58.74m² in addition to other existing facilities of the building covering an area of 35.74m² and additional areas of 20.91m²) and constitute a substantial upgrade of the existing installation, while respecting the approved terms of the Environmental Impact Study.
