Information from circles close to the PM’s office noted that resignation was considered the best solution due to the toxicity that is prevalent in the political life of the country, on the occasion of the phone tapping case of PASOK president, Nikos Androulakis. The head of PASOK recently denounced the action and filed a relevant suit.
The targeting of Grigoris Dimitriadis by certain political circles, and by extension the prime minister himself, created this heavy climate and it was decided that resignation was the best solution in order to disconnect the case from K. Mitsotakis and his office.
His resignation, according to government circles, is linked to the handling of the EYP (which is under the direct oversight of the PM), regarding the legitimate tapping (surveillance with the permission of the competent prosecutor) of the PASOK/KINAL leader’s phone, after taking office as MEP.
Despite the fact, as the same circles say, the government and Mr. Dimitriadis himself had nothing to do with the Androulakis case or any other monitoring, the resignation came in order to lower tones and not to allow for “speculation by certain political circles” .
