The new resources approved by the decision of the Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Notis Mitarachi and coming from the Solidarity Fund, are expected to cover important needs for the country’s municipalities that contribute to the management of immigration.
At the invitation of the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum, the Municipalities of Alexandria, Western Lesvos, Ioannina, Leros, are subsidized with a total of 1.87 million euros, for municipal projects, following proposals submitted at their discretion and based on local needs.
In particular, the Municipality of Alexandria is given 340,000 euros for the supply of a waste-carrying vehicle of the type using a compression mechanism with a capacity of at least 22 m2. and 410 waste bins with a capacity of 1,100 liters each, to meet the increased hygiene needs of those living in the accommodation structure. The Municipality of Western Lesvos will receive 600,000 euros for the upgrade of sports facilities (basketball courts). For the Municipality of Leros, 900,000 euros have been approved for the connection of a Reception Center with biological waste reclamation and 33,000 euros are given to the Municipality of Ioannina for park and playground equipment for the community of Katsikas.

A total of 104 projects worth 43,973,474 euros have been approved in 36 first and second degree local government organizations (OTAs), their legal entities under public law, as well as legal entities under private law under article 252 of the Code of Municipalities and Communities (law 3463/ 2006, A’ 116) the share capital of which is majority owned by OTAs.
Finally, it is noted that a total of 78,921,801 euros have been given to date, of which 24,410,551 euros have to do with municipal fees, 12,410,776 euros in extraordinary grants and 42,100,474 euros in municipalities for their use in development projects.
