Concluding his speech, Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced towards all inside and outside the country that the elections will be held at the end of the four years saying that he will not allow a toxic climate in this long pre-election period.
After referring to the fact that “Greece is officially out of enhanced surveillance after 12 years” and “leaving behind the memoranda and divisive and populist public square gatherings at an extremely difficult time with an extremely difficult winter ahead of us,” the prime minister added :
“I will not allow those lurking inside and outside Greece to divert the country from its course,” and noted that “I know forces inside and outside Greece” that could not stand the path of Western liberal democracy that our country has chosen.
In this context, Mr. Mitsotakis emphasized that he will use “strong language” and underlined that in the Greece of 2022, the other sanctuaries where some sought for rubles or drachmas will not be revived.
All these things, Mr. Mitsotakis added, will not affect the political scene with the aim of destabilizing the government. “I am not backing down and the Greeks are not backing down. Only the people themselves decide on their future and they do not delegate this decision to anyone,” the prime minister pointed out meaningfully.
“You are asking for elections in this environment of instability, Mr. Tsipras. Don’t you see what is happening in Italy? Think about what you’re asking for Mr. Tsipras, so you can curry favorwith those who don’t want Mitsotakis in the government. I will bear the cost to lead the country to a safe haven. I will not run away, and at the end of the four years we will face each other. The government does not surrender.”
