Statements made by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during the ongoing cabinet meeting caused quite a stir.
In his introductory position the Prime Minister referred to the energy crisis, Turkey and the support measures for society, revealing his intentions in view of the important decisions of the European Union.
Initially, Mr. Mitsotakis underlined that “the international environment has dark clouds that portend a black winter”, noting that the war in Ukraine has been ongoing for six months and that Russia is attacking Europe as a whole using natural gas as a weapon, the price of which has shot up tenfold.
He emphasized that Moscow is causing political instability inside the countries that react to its plans.
In fact, Mr. Mitsotakis said that the Russian president and his Turkish counterpart “do not hide that they would like another government in Greece”.
Immigration
Regarding immigration, the prime minister spoke about challenges inside the country. “Instead of mass waves, immigration appears in the guise of alleged humanitarian invasions. No amount of maneuvering will change our attitude. We save innocents, we tend to our borders,” he said, among other things.
“Aid will be measured, resources are not inexhaustible”
At the same time, Mr. Mitsotakis expressed satisfaction for Europe’s turn towards the energy threat, saying that after seven months they Europeans are coming around to the proposals he had made.
“In the energy sector, the time has come to implement the package I proposed seven months ago: ceiling and decoupling of the price of natural gas from that of electricity. The government will continue to support citizens but the resources are not inexhaustible, pointed out K. Mitsotakis. “Our aid will always be measured,” he continued. “I hear and read about a tsunami of impending benefits that create false expectations. True inflation is not defeated by inflationary promises.”
Closing his position, he emphasized that: “Greece is not turning back, it remains firmly on the trajectory of Europe with a government that responds to challenges with society as an ally. I am the first to tolerate neither prompters, nor compromise with our mistakes. We place our trust in citizens”.
