Data released on Friday by the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) points to an increase of 5 percent in 2023 for the global sector, with a trend showing resumed popularity for this type of holiday.
According to a study commissioned by CLIA, interest in cruise holidays is higher than it was in 2019, the record-breaking pre-pandemic year. Some 84 percent of cruise passengers this year said they would again choose such holidays, up by 5 percent from 2019.
The data was presented during sessions of the “Ports & Destinations Dialogue” event organized by CLIA in Malaga earlier this month.
Participants at the meeting also discussed new regulations in the sector that will take effect in 2023, when the EU will implement new rules at its borders for third country nationals, something that may affect passenger flows at terminals.
