The latest opinion poll by the Metron Analysis firm, presented on the prime-time newscast of Athens-based Mega Channel on Thursday, shows a continued lead by ruling New Democracy (ND) party over main opposition SYRIZA.
The results from the poll give center-right ND an 8.4-percentage point lead over leftist SYRIZA, with scheduled general elections now less than a year away.
Specifically, ND is preferred by 29 percent of respondents in the poll, to 20.6 percent for SYRIZA. A modestly resurgent PASOK-KINAL party, a social democrat grouping, is given 12.2 percent, followed by three parties with single-digit results. The latter three are all in Parliament currently.
Another 10.1 percent of respondents said they were undecided.
By extrapolating the results, ND is projected at 35.8 percent; 25.4 percent for SYRIZA; 15 percent for PASOK-KINAL.
When asked about who they predict will win the election, ND is picked by 70 percent of respondents, regardless of their preference. SYRIZA, conversely, picks up only 16 percent.
The Metron Analysis opinion poll was conducted between Sept. 22 and Sept. 26 on a sample of 1.306 respondents around the country.
