
Elpiniki (Elpi) Petraki was elected, with a large majority, president of WISTA International, succeeding Cypriot Despina Theodosiou.
Commenting on her election, Ms. Petraki expressed the hope that “I will be remembered as the president who brought new confidence to WISTA. I really feel that over the last few years we have become an association that is a champion of diversity and equality and an association that sits at the table with other industry associations and is part of the decision makers.”
4,000 members worldwide
Recently, IMO and WISTA International created the new Maritime Speakers Bureau platform, with the aim of bringing equality to maritime panels.
WISTA- Women in Shipping and Trading Association is a non-profit organization founded in London in 1974 by professionals to support women in the shipping industry. Today, it has approximately 4,000 members in 51 states.
It is noted that Mrs. Petraki is the 2nd Vice-President of the Association of Short Sea Shipping Shipowners (EENMA), a member of the Board of Directors of the Maritime Chamber of Greece and a member of the Board of Directors of the Maritime Museum of Greece.
