The number of registered unemployed in Greece listed on the relevant state agency’s rolls increased by 5.92 percent – or 52,699 individuals in absolute terms – in October 2022, compared to the previous month of September 2022, the result of the end of the high season in Greece’s all-important tourism sector.
Conversely, compared to the same month in 2021, the number of unemployed actually fell by 4.62 percent, according to the Public Employment Agency.
The number of unemployed seeking work in October 2022 reached 936,419 people, or nearly one-tenth of the population in the country. Of the latter figure, 56.06 percent (524,852 people) are registered by the agency. The number of registered unemployed without a job for a year or more is 411,567 individuals.
The number of people receiving jobless benefits also increased by 9.5 percent last month, or by 9,983 people.
