
The biggest beekeeping event in Greece is the 13th Greek Honey and Bee Products Festival, which will take place from December 2 to 4, 2022 at the Peace and Friendship Stadium.
The Festival is the meeting place for beekeepers and a way to promote Greek honey both in food service and retail as well as to the consumer public, who flood the exhibition spaces every year.
The goal of the 13th Festival is the promotion and promotion of branded Greek honey, mainly of small producers, and beehive products to the consumer public and in mass catering areas. In addition, it is the place for the conclusion of commercial and business agreements between producers and companies producing and trading beekeeping products and equipment.
The conference
A conference on “Climate change and Productivity of Bee Colonies – Adaptation of Genetic Material” is co-organized by the Department of Beekeeping of the Institute of Animal Production Science of Hellenic Agricultural Organization ELGO – DIMITRA, within the framework of the Festival, in collaboration with OMSE (Federation of Beekeeping Associations of Greece).
On Saturday, December 3, at 12:45 the director of the Animal Production Institute of ELGO – DIMITRA, Dr. Fani Hatzina will develop in her speech the topic “Adaptation of bee swarms – Genetic improvement methodology”. On the same day, at 18:00, the commissioned researcher of the Department of Beekeeping, dr. Leonidas Charistos, will present the topic “Loss of bee colonies during the last 15 years in Europe and the world”.
The aims of the Department of Apiculture are to upgrade the role of the conference so that Greek beekeeping products now have the targeted and organized promotion that they deserve at their high quality level, but also to make known and promote more the supporting role of ELGO – DIMITRA for the development of Beekeeping.
