He stepped foot for the first time in a European Council on March 14, 2013, in those critical moments for the economy of Cyprus.
Yesterday was the last official European Council and the president of the body, Charles Michel, said goodbye to the president of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, in a special way through his post on Twitter.
Charles Michel wrote in his message: “Dear Anastasiades, after almost ten years in this room, you are one of the most experienced members of the European Council. Thank you for all your work to promote the European project”.
And he added in Greek: “A big thank you and heartfelt wishes for the best!”
Charles Michel’s post is accompanied by a short video in which some important moments of the presence of the president of the Republic of Cyprus at the European Council are captured.
The short video ends with a “thank you Niko” in English and Greek.
Dear @AnastasiadesCY after almost ten years in this room, you are one of the most experienced members of the European Council.
Thank you for all your work advancing the European project. #EUCO

It’s not out of the question…
However, although the leaders said goodbye to President Anastasiades, it is not ruled out that they will meet him again a few days after the presidential elections in Cyprus since there is a possibility of an emergency summit on February 9.
