By decision of the president of New Democracy and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the status of member of New Democracy of MEP Maria Spyrakis is suspended, until the investigation of the case for which she is being controlled is completed.
As long as the above suspension decision lasts, Maria Spyrakis will not be a candidate for New Democracy MP in the first Thessaloniki district in the next national elections.
Maria Spyrakis had stated earlier that she would request the suspension of her party status today, following the request of the European General Prosecutor to lift her immunity. And that’s because, as the MEP said, she doesn’t want there to be shadows.
Ms. Spyrakis stated that “I have accepted that the removal of my immunity proceed quickly and with summary procedures. It is very important that it proceed immediately.”
“I ask that it proceed immediately and without going through the competent Committee. With summary procedures (…). In any case, the discussion will take place at the Plenary Session in January, but I want this case to end as soon as possible,” she said.
