Greek consumers are worried over the present economic situation in the country and reserved over the future, according to results of an inaugural nationwide survey by the Union of Hellenic Chambers of Commerce (KEEE).

According to findings of the survey, conducted last month and this month on a sample of 2,403 people (half of which are consumers and the other half business owners), insecurity and fear are the primary sentiments expressed by 37 percent of respondents when asked about the economic situation they face presently.

One in five consumers (22 percent) said they are unable to fully pay their power bills, while one in four said they are unable to cover heating bills.

Additionally, 70 percent of respondents said they have restricted spending on clothing, footwear, entertainment and travel, while 52 percent said they have reduced spending on consumer goods, such as foodstuffs.

The average spending per person for holiday gifts was estimated at 126 euros, while the average spent on the holiday table per household reached 110 euros.
