
The retail sales volume in Greece fell 2.2 percent in October 2022, compared with the same month in 2021, with only two store categories posting an increase in sales, the Hellenic Statistical Authority announced on Friday.
Specifically, the sales volume fell 6.8 percent for supermarkets, 6.5 percent in the food/beverage/tobacco category, 4.5 percent for department stores, 2.3 percent for fuel-lubricants and 1.5 percent for pharmaceuticals-cosmetics, while sales grew by 8.7 percent for bookstores and 7.7 percent in the furniture-home equipment sector. The figure remained unchanged in clothing-footwear.
The volume of sales dropped by 0.5 percent from September 2022.
The seasonally-adjusted index eased by 0.8 percent in October from September 2022. The turnover index (turnover in current prices) grew by 8 percent in October 2022 from October 2021 and rose by 0.9 percent from September 2022.
