Greece records one of the cheapest retail electricity prices in Europe for another month, in December, according to the data published by the pan-European HEPI (Household Energy Price Index).
As stated in an announcement by the Ministry of Energy, last month our country recorded the third cheapest retail price for electricity, among European states that have variable tariffs, such as the ones that more than 90% of Greek households have.
In December, the average price per kilowatt hour in Greece was 25 cents, much lower than the European average, which was 38.65 cents, but also from countries with mature energy markets such as Spain (34.8 cents), the Italy (46.6 minutes), Britain (48.8 minutes), Germany (50.9 minutes), etc.
Expensive natural gas
Regarding natural gas for domestic consumers, Greece ranks 14th cheapest, out of a total of 28 countries, as the price in our country for December 2022 was 13.33 cents/KWh, lower than the average price of EU, which is at 15.09 cents/KWh.
“For another month, the effectiveness of the government’s policy brings Greece among the countries with the cheapest retail electricity prices, throughout Europe” commented the Minister of Environment and Energy, Kostas Skrekas and added: “For many months, without interruption, according to HEPI’s indisputable data, the price of electricity for Greek households remains at affordable levels, despite the long-term duration of the devastating war in Ukraine and the energy crisis it has triggered, with painful consequences for many European countries. The best response to the opposition’s nihilistic criticism is given by independent institutions with pan-European prestige. Our government, true to its commitments to Greek citizens, will continue to support households, professionals and farmers for as long as the unprecedented energy crisis in Europe lasts.”
