Greece’s trade deficit increased by an eyebrow-raising 50.7 percent in 2022, although it fell by 10.6-percent in the last month of the year, December, the Hellenic Statistical Authority (EL.STAT) announced on Tuesday.
Specifically, the value of imports in December 2022 reached 7.471 billion euros, up 8.4 percent from the corresponding month in 2021. Excluding oil products, imports rose by 3.1 percent, while excluding oil products and vessel purchases, imports rose 2.6 percent.
The value of exports reached 4.522 billion euros in December 2022, up 25.7 percent compared to the same month in 2021. Excluding oil products, exports grew by 16.1 percent, while excluding oil products and vessel purchases, exports increased by 16.1 percent.
The trade deficit in Greece totaled 2.944 billion euros in December 2022, down by 10.6 percent from December 2021. Excluding oil products, the deficit fell by 11.1 percent, while excluding oil products and vessel sales, the deficit fell by 12.2 percent.
In 2022, the value of imports reached 93.048 billion euros, up 42.2 percent from 2021. The value of exports totaled 54.676 billion euros in 2022, up 36.7 percent from the previous year.
The country’s trade deficit reached 38.372 billion euros in 2022, up 50.7 percent from 2021.
