The advance of the severe weather front “Barbara” continues, with forecasters warning of further worsening of the phenomena until midday. Schools will be closed today in some areas of Attica due to the bad weather and lessons will be cinducted through distance learning.
From 11:00 in the morning, shops in the north, north-west and north-east of Attica, including the northern suburbs of Athens, will be able to be open today (07/02), as stated in an announcement by the Ministry of Development and Investments.
The same applies to the transport and sale of goods through delivery or courier services in the same areas, as well as in the Regional Units of Magnesia, Fthiotida, Viotia, Evia and Sporades.
Public services extraordinary hours, also on Tuesday due to the bad weather
From 10:00 in the morning public services will operate in the areas affected by severe weather front Barbara.
Specifically, for the Region of Attica and for the Regional Units of Boeotia, Evia, Evrytania and Fthiotida of the Region of Central Greece, the measure of emergency teleworking that was implemented today, Monday, will not apply and the employees will have to come to their services normally.
Meteorologist Arnaoutoglou predicts snow until noon
After noon on Tuesday (7/2) the snow showers will weaken or be limited to the most mountainous areas, while in the evening it will be dry in most areas, except for Attica, Boeotia, Evia, Magnesia, Sporades, Cyclades and Crete, where the showers will be maintained. In the above areas, in fact, it is not excluded that the snowfall will thicken during the evening hours of Tuesday to Wednesday.
In Attica, the day will start with snowfall, more intense in the mountains and northwest. From noon onwards, the phenomena will be limited to the mountainous part of the prefecture, while in the evening new snow showers are expected in the basin, of weak to moderate intensity.
Winds will continue to blow from the north at an intensity of 6 to 7 Beaufort and the temperature will vary between 1 and 6 degrees Celsius.
Thessaloniki and central Macedonia will have few clouds in the morning, more in Halkidiki, while during the day there will be enough sun. In the evening it will be dry, but there is the possibility of temporary snowfall in the south and east of Halkidiki. Winds offshore will reach 6 to 7 Beaufort and temperatures will range from 2 to 5 degrees Celsius.

As Open channel’s meteorologist reports in his post on Facebook, the latest forecast data shows that new snowfall is coming (also) in Attica in the next few hours, as a consequence of the worsening of the bad weather “Barbara”.
What National Weather Service-EMY predicts
In the eastern mainland, the islands of the Aegean, temporarily in the western Peloponnese and the southern islands of the Ionian, increased cloudiness with local rains or snow in the lowlands and sea-coastal parts and snowfall in the highlands and semi-mountainous areas, but also in areas in the central and northern areas with lower altitude .
Snowfall is expected to continue in eastern Magnesia, Evia, eastern Sterea, the islands of the northern and eastern Aegean as well as mountainous and semi-mountainous areas of the Eastern Peloponnese, the Cyclades (mainly in the western parts) and Crete (mainly in the west and centrally). A gradual decline in the phenomena is expected from noon and from the north. In the rest of the country, a few clouds temporarily increased.
The winds will blow in the east northeast 5 to 7 and in the Aegean temporarily until noon 8 Beaufort and in the west east northeast 4 to 5 Beaufort. The temperature will not change significantly and will remain below normal for the season.
Its maximum value will not exceed 3 to 4 degrees Celsius in the north, 5 to 8 degrees in the eastern mainland and the northern Aegean and 9 to 11 degrees Celsius in the rest of the country. Frost will be noted in the continental areas mainly in the morning and evening hours, which in the central and northern areas will be locally strong and in the northwest and mountainous areas locally total.
MACEDONIA, THRACE
Weather: A few clouds temporarily increased with light snowfall in eastern Macedonia and Thrace and in the southern parts of central and western Macedonia.

Weather: A few clouds temporarily increasing until noon. Weak local rains in the Ionian Islands, the western Peloponnese and the western Sterea and in the highlands and semi-mountains transient snowfalls.
Winds: East northeast 4 to 5 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 03 to 09 degrees Celsius. In the interior of Epirus 5 to 6 degrees lower.
THESSALIA, EASTERN Mainland, EASTERN PELOPONNESE
Weather: Increased clouds with local rain or sleet. Snowfall will occur in the Sporades (until the midday hours), in eastern Magnesia, eastern Sterea, as well as in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas of the eastern Peloponnese. A gradual decline in the phenomena is expected from noon and from the north.
Winds: North northeast 5 to 7 and temporary east 8 Beaufort with a slight weakening in the evening.
Temperature: From 01 to 07 degrees Celsius. In the north 3 to 4 degrees lower.
CYCLADES, CRETE
Weather: Increased clouds with local rains or sleet and in the mountainous – semi-mountainous snowfalls, in the Cyclades (mainly in the western parts), and in Crete mainly in the western parts and central parts.
Winds: Northerly 6 to 7, temporary local up to 8 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 03 to 09 degrees Celsius.
EAST AEGEAN ISLANDS – DODECANISE
Weather: On the islands of the eastern Aegean, sleet and occasional snowfall. In the Dodecanese few clouds temporarily increased with light local rains.
Winds: Northerly 6 to 7, temporary to the north in the morning local 8 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 06 to 11 degrees Celsius. In the north 4 to 5 degrees lower.
EVIA
Weather: Increased clouds with sleet and at times snowfall. Gradual recession from the afternoon

ATTICA
Weather: Increased clouds with sleet or snow, while temporary intensity of snowfall is expected from time to time in the northernmost areas, so the phenomena will also manifest in areas of lower altitude. A gradual subsidence of the phenomena is expected from the afternoon.
Winds: Northerly 5 to 6 and east 7 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 00 to 05 degrees Celsius. In the north 3 to 4 degrees lower.
THESSALONIKI
Weather: A few clouds, temporarily increased.
Winds: North northwest 4 to 5 Beaufort.
Temperature: From -02 (minus) to 03 degrees Celsius.

All Civil Protection forces will remain on full alert and vigilance throughout the night.
