
The road to the Israeli market was opened for Greek kiwifruit, after the completion of the procedures and the signing of the bilateral phytosanitary agreement.
Thus, after the relevant consultation of the competent services of Greece with Israel, the signing of the protocol, which defines all the requirements for importing kiwis to Israel, was entered into.
In particular, according to a document from the Directorate of Plant Production Protection of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, Greek kiwifruit exporters are now able to export fresh kiwifruit (botanical species: Actinidia chinensis and Actinidia deliciosa) to Israel, since receiving the document, according with the official phytosanitary requirements of the country.
The conclusion of the bilateral agreement between Greece and Israel is welcomed by the Association of Fruit, Vegetable and Juice Exporters (Incofruit Hellas).
The course of exports
Exports of Greek kiwis are moving steadily.
According to the cargo announcements registered in export registries for the export of kiwifruit and processed by the Association of Exporters, from September 1, 2022 to February 10, 2023, 133,266 tons were traded compared to 133,206 tons, which were destined for export during the corresponding period last year.
Of the total amount above, 10,177 tons were sent to the USA compared to 11,879 tons in the corresponding period last year, 29,561 tons were sent to Spain compared to 17,389 tons last year, 15,183 tons were sent to Italy compared to 39,885 tons in the previous season, Canada 4,584 tons against 3,228 tons last year and to India 14,908 tons against 949 tons, in the corresponding period last year.
