
The importance of Greece’s participation in the new Baltic – Black Sea – Aegean European Transport Corridor was mentioned today, Tuesday, February 14, by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Kostas Karamanlis, during his speech at an international conference in Poland on the topic “Reshaping the chains of logistics under the new transport policy for the development of the Trans-European Transport Network (Redefinition of logistics chains in the new TEN-T transport policy).
Mr. Karamanlis emphasized the potential and importance of Greece as a hub for the supply chain of SE Europe, pointing out the need to reshape traditional trade routes from the EU.
Network development
“The EU is called upon to formulate a new policy for the development of its networks, in the shadow of the ongoing Russian attack against Ukraine,” said the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, noting that “Poland and Greece jointly participate in the new European Transport Corridor Baltic – Black Sea – Aegean, which, with its extension to Ukraine, is a challenge and an opportunity for the future”.
In particular, as he explained, it connects the maritime interfaces of the North, the Baltic, the Black Sea and the Mediterranean and noted that: “This corridor, when fully developed, has the potential to connect, by rail, important ports such as Piraeus , Thessaloniki and Alexandroupolis with the port of Gdansk, on the Baltic Sea and the port of Odessa on the Black Sea”.
“In this way, the global supply chain is reshaped, making Greece, in practice, a crossroads of Europe – Asia – Africa”, concluded Mr. Karamanlis.
