Registered unemployment in Greece totaled nearly 1.1 million people in January 2023, decreasing from 1.11 million in the corresponding month of 2022, down by 1.93 percent.

The figure for the preceding month, December 2022, was 1.084 million, meaning that unemployment was marginally up (0.61 percent), month-to-month, Greece’s Public Employment Agency announced on Monday.

Specifically, the number of registered unemployed people seeking work was 1.086 million in January 2023, of which nearly 536,000 are categorized as long-term unemployed, or 49.35 percent.

Men accounted for 36.37 percent of registered unemployed, with women comprising the 2:1 ratio of 63.63 percent.

A total of 193,632 jobless people received unemployment benefits in January 2023.
