Short-term lease lodgings – AirBnB-type listings – in winter and alpine holiday destinations in Greece ahead of the coming Shrove Monday three-day weekend are reportedly booked above 80 percent.
According to market watchers, pre-bookings are also up for prefecture capitals, such as Kastoria, Xanthi and Grevena, and even low-season island destinations, such as Skyros.
The mountainous resorts of Metsovo (NW Greece) and Arachova (south-central Greece) are reportedly the top choices for the coming three-day weekend, with vacancies above 87 percent.
Indicatively, short-term leasing of dwellings for Metsovo range from 116 euros to 510 euros for two overnight stays; 96 to 630 euros for Arachova, where a well-known ski course is located.
Prices in Kalavryta, in the mountainous northwest Peloponnese province of southern Greece, range from 95 to 320 euros for two overnight stays.
The coming three-day weekend, culminating with Shrove or Clean Monday, according to the Christian Orthodox calendar, marks the beginning of Great Lent, 48 days until Easter Sunday. The Sunday before Clean Monday is the climax of carnival season in Greece, with the biggest celebration and parades annually held in the western port city of Patras.
