Greece’s railways regulator (RAS), an independent watchdog authority, joined the fray on Friday in relation to a deadly Feb. 28 train collision at the Tempi Valley Gorge site, saying the training of a station master who inadvertently – by all accounts — switched one train into the path of the other was “incomplete and inadequate”.
Moreover, the independent authority called on the state-run Hellenic Railways Organisation (OSE) not to use, in positions of crucial responsibility, staff-members that sat for and passed the same training course.
In the face of continuing criticism over its delayed reaction in the wake of the deadly rail tragedy, RAS said its probe could not confirm that those who attended the course received correct and complete and practical and theoretical training.
Moreover, in an announcement, RAS’s board said the independent authority was only involved in approving a course curriculum proposed by OSE.
