Power production from renewable energy sources in Greece exceeded the 10GW-threshold in early 2023, the country’s Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO or ADMIE) announced on Wednesday.
In addressing the 4th Power & Gas Forum in Athens, IPTO CEO Manos Manousakis said new renewable energy source units added to the network last year totaled 1.3GW – 583MW in the transmission system and 1.3GW in the distribution grid.
IPTO and the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator have also issued offers for grid connection with a total power of 13.5GW.
Manousakis said the participation of renewable energy sources to the country’s energy mix grew by 6 percentage points (39 percent from 33 percent in 2021) in 2022. He added that investments by IPTO will raise the available margin for new units to 28GW in 2030, up from 17GW currently.
