Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis described main opposition president Alexis Tsipras’ pre-election announcements as “unearthly and dangerous”, in an interview he gave to the newspaper Parapolitika, stressing that if even a part of them is implemented, they can lead the country to a 4th memorandum.
At the same time, he opened fire on SYRIZA, for its stance on the issue of the amendment for the Kasidiaris party, while regarding the elections he stated that “I do not believe a word of what Mr. Tsipras is saying, that he will not attempt to build a “government of the defeated.”
Greek elections: New Democracy looking for solutions to the conundrum of the North
In addition, the prime minister opened his cards for the day after the May 21 election, saying, among other things, that new tax reductions are coming in the next four years, if New Democracy wins.
Barbs against SYRIZA
Mr. Mitsotakis stated that “the ballot box of May 21 will determine everything. She will be the one to decide who will govern and the stronger her message the closer it will bring us to security and progress. In times of uncertainty the country needs someone to hold the steering wheel firmly. Neither “blind dates” nor a government of “marriage of interest”. And I don’t believe a word of what Mr. Tsipras says that he will not attempt to build a government of the defeated.”
At the same time, referring to the amendment for the Kasidiaris party, he accused SYRIZA of “turning a blind eye to the fascists”, saying characteristically: “However, the negative attitude of SYRIZA causes an impression. It seems that Mr. Tsipras, blinded by his factional hatred, believes that by turning a blind eye to the fascists and the fringes he will harm New Democracy but he is harming Democracy itself. Because once upon a time SYRIZA also played with fire”.
Mr. Mitsotakis announced the reorganization of the ministries and the creation of a separate Ministry of Demographic and Housing Policy, in case the ND wins the elections, while he also mentioned his intention to review the way of electing MEPs after the national elections.
