Cruise ship sector executives in Greece foresee an increase in home port arrivals this season, with 2023 viewed as a milestone in the post-pandemic era.
Total cruise ship arrivals in 2022 reached 4,780, with the number of passengers carried by vessels exceeded 4.6 million – including the final figure supplied by the Piraeus Port Authority at the end of 2022.
The numbers compare with 3,979 vessel arrivals in pre-pandemic 2019 and 5.55 million passengers.
According to recent forecasts by the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), the port of Piraeus will alone welcome one million cruise ship passengers in 2023. In 2022 Greece’s busiest and biggest port welcomed 677 cruise vessels and more than 880,000 passengers, compared with 622 and 1.098 million in 2019, respectively.
The forecast for 2023 is 850 cruise ship arrivals, of which 650 will be home port journeys.
