The widow of the victim, Stathas Alexandropoulos Karaivaz testifies to the investigator handling the case file for the murder of journalist Giorgos Karaivaz.
Ms. Karaivaz went to court accompanied by her lawyer Apostolos Lytras in order to file a statement in support of the charge for the punishment of all those responsible for the murder of her husband.
At the same time, the investigations into the cold blooded execution of Giorgos Karaivaz are in full progress. The two brothers, aged 40 and 48, who are accused of their involvement in the murder, were already sent to prison after lengthy depositions.
They are charged with first degree murder and illegal possession of firearms. They, according to their defense, dispute the evidence cited by the police authorities and speak of “logical leaps” on the basis of which they were arrested.
According to their defense lawyers, they denied before the investigator any connection with the murder of the journalist.
“My principals deny the accusation in every way. They do not have a criminal past in the sense of convictions”, said the lawyer of the defendants, Athanasia Stavris.
The 48-year-old, who was questioned by the investigator about the presence of the white van in the area, claimed that he used it to distribute leaflets for a four-day period on the days of the journalist’s murder, while the 40-year-old claimed that he has absolutely no involvement in the crime.
“The family is waiting for the persons who ordered the hit to be found, those who gave the order and for those who must pay to pay,” commented the lawyer of Giorgos Karaivaz’s mother and sister, Roi Pavleas, speaking to MEGA channel.
From the side of the defense of the two defendants, it is pointed out that the evidence cited by the police authorities is incomplete and there is talk of “logical leaps” on the basis of which the two brothers were arrested.
