The latest in a veritable stream of opinion polls in Greece, all ahead of the May 21 general election, has incumbent New Democracy (ND) leading main opposition SYRIZA by 6.6 percentage points.
The nationwide poll, conducted by the Rass firm between May 8 and May 11 and presented on the prime-time newscast of regional Athens-area broadcaster Action 24 on Monday, shows center-right ND garnering 30.8 percent of respondents’ preferences.
Leftist SYRIZA follows with 24.2 percent; 9.8 percent for socialist PASOK; 7.7 percent for the Communist Party (KKE), and 3.2 percent for Yanis Varoufakis left-radical Mera24. The result of this specific poll shows only five parties making it into Greece 300-deputy Parliament.
Additionally, 9.9 percent of respondents said they were still undecided.
Asked who they believe will be the first-past-the-post party on Sunday, regardless of their preference, 71.1 percent said ND.
