
Incumbent New Democracy (ND) party continues to field a sizable lead over rival SYRIZA party, four days before general elections are held in Greece on Sunday, according to results of a latest opinion poll unveiled on Wednesday.
The poll, conducted by the Alco firm and presented on the prime-time newscast of Athens-based Alpha channel, shows center-right ND with a 6.7-percentage point lead over leftist SYRIZA, 32.7 percent to 26 percent.
The order of lesser parties remains similar to all previous opinion polls: socialist PASOK, 8.3 percent; the Communist Party (KKE), 6.1 percent; Elliniki Lysi, 3.7 percent, and Mera25, 3.3 percent.
The portion of respondents who are designated as undecided was 11 percent in the specific poll.
In a projection of the vote come Sunday, the Alco poll gives ND between 34.7 percent to 38.7 percent; 27.3 percent to 31.3 percent for SYRIZA.
Asked which government, one led by ND or one by SYRIZA, can best guarantee a positive course for the government in the coming years, ND is preferred by 36 percent of respondents, to 23 percent for SYRIZA.
Conversely, 36 percent of respondents answered “neither of the two”
