![Elections 2023: What young voters voted for – Which way did the Center swing](https://www.ot.gr/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/ff1e46ff-d742-45d3-961b-6ba8a54df8d4-4.jpg)
Very important conclusions are drawn from the results of the final estimate of the joint exit poll for the May 21 elections, which largely explain the actual results of the ballot box, as are gradually being announced by the Ministry of the Interior.
In particular, a factor that particularly concerned analysts and experts during the pre-election period was whether, what and how young people will vote, specifically those who vote for the first time.
So according to the final data of the exit polls, young people aged 17-24 voted for New Democracy at a rate of 31.5%, while 28.8% voted for SYRIZA – without, however, having data on participation by age group.
Is the Center “returning” to PASOK?
In addition, a particularly important conclusion that emerges from the final assessments of the exit polls is that the coveted Center, the one that, as they say, produces governments and was claimed by both New Democracy and SYRIZA, as well as PASOK-KINAL, beyond the fact that, with a majority, it gave first place to the ND with 39.8%, it seems to “return” to the… roots.
And this, because the voters who identify themselves as centrists declared that they voted for PASOK-KINAL in a percentage of 26.6%, while SYRIZA was their third choice with 15.9%.
In particular, the percentages declared in the exit polls that voters gave to the first three parties according to their ideological position are as follows:
Far-Left / ND 17.9% / SYRIZA 23.9% / PASOK 9%
Leftists / ND 2.6% / SYRIZA 56.7% / PASOK 5.3%
Center-left / ND 6.4% / SYRIZA 53.5% / PASOK 22.9%
Centers / ND 39.8% / SYRIZA 15.9% / PASOK 26.6%
Center-right / ND 83.5% / SYRIZA 4.3% / PASOK 4.3%
Right-wing / ND 88.4 / SYRIZA 1.4% / PASOK 1.1%
Far-Right / ND 39.9 / SYRIZA 6.7% / PASOK 1.2%
The ND won over farmers and the unemployed – freelancers turned their backs on SYRIZA
For the rest, it is worth noting that the first place in ND was given, always according to the exit polls, by farmers/breeders with a huge difference from SYRIZA (47.5% against 13%), while the second party is PASOK-KINAL with 13.4% .
In addition, SYRIZA paid dearly for the what former minister Katrougalos said on television, since the freelancers sector “turned its back”, giving 54% to the ND of Kyriakos Mitsotakis and 17.3% to the party of Alexis Tsipras.
Finally, both men and women voted for the ND by a majority, in percentages of 40.6% and 38.3% respectively, while SYRIZA seems to win only the employees of the private sector with 29.1% against the ND’s 27.8%, while it is noteworthy that the the ruling party won over the unemployed with 33.4%, compared to SYRIZA’s 26%.
