The CEO of the Athens International Airport (AIA), Yiannis Paraschis, will succeed Yiannis Retsos at the helm of the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE), following the composition of the new board of directors this week for the sector organization.
The board members were elected during the 31st SETE general assembly.
In his last address as SETE president, Retsos focused on last year’s season, 2022, saying that international tourist arrival, worldwide, dropped by 37 percent when compared to pre-pandemic 2019.
Specifically for Greece, the decrease was 11.2 percent, or 27.8 million arrivals in absolute terms, down from 31.3 million in 2019.
Travel remittances were marginally down in 2022, compared to 2019, by 3 percent, or in monetary terms, 17.6 billion euros, compared to 18.2 billion euros in 2019.
He said the Greek market now stands fifth, worldwide.
