Lifer Babis Anagnostopoulos announced today his decision to withdraw from the appeal he had brought against the first-instance decision for the murder of his wife Caroline Crouche.
A few days after the start of his trial in the second instance, the defendant authorized his lawyer, Alexandros Papaioannidis, to proceed with all the procedures for waiving the appeal that he had exercised, possibly hoping for a more favorable treatment from the judges of the Court of Appeal.
His lawyer cited extremely serious reasons for this decision of his principal without mentioning anything more.
In particular, the defender of the accused states in his written statement that: My client, Charalambos Anagnostopoulos, has decided for extremely serious reasons that are not publicized to waive all legal remedies, specifically the appeal he filed against the decision of the Mixed Jury Court of Athens.
As his advocate, with his authorization from 06-06-2023, legally considered by the Malandrino detention center, where he is serving his sentence, he authorizes me to proceed today to all those procedures to the Athens Appeals Prosecutor’s Office and before the Mixed Jury Court of Appeal of Athens in order not to continue his trial in the second degree.
In addition, it is clarified regarding the issue of the National Examinations that due to the above developments and as he is in a very difficult psychological situation, he cannot complete his participation in them and therefore will not attempt to be admitted to schools of Higher Education.
