
The latest opinion results unveiled on Thursday evening show incumbent New Democracy (ND) party with enough voters’ support to form a majority government, despite seven parties possibly entering the 300-deputy Greek Parliament.
The poll was conducted by the MRB firm and presented on the prime-time newscast of Athens-based Open Channel.
In absolute terms, center-right ND is given 36.3 percent of respondents’ preference, compared to 17.6 percent for leftist SYRIZA, which served as the main opposition during the July 2019-May 2023 period. The parties received 40.8 and 20.1 percent in the May 21 ballot, respectively, which although failed to produce a government, was considered a landslide for ND and a failure for SYRIZA.
Socialist PASOK garnered 10 percent; the Communist Party (ΚΚΕ) 6.2 percent; a new party established by former parliament president Zoe Konstantopoulou 4.2 percent; the Elliniki Lysi party 3.9 percent; a new faith-centered party, Niki, 4.2 percent, and Yanis Varoufakis’ radical left Mera25 party 2.1 percent, which would mean it doesn’t enter Parliament.
The undecided vote, based on the poll, totals 11.9 percent.
In an extrapolation of the poll results, the breakdown is as follows:
ND 39.2 percent to 43.2 percent
SYRIZA 18 percent to 22 percent
PASOK 10 percent to 13 percent
ΚΚΕ 6 percent to 8 percent
Lysi 3.4 percent to 5.4 percent
Niki (Victory) 3.1 percent to 5.1 percent
Plevsi (Konstantopoulou) 3.8 percent to 5.8 percent
Mera25 1.4 percent to 3.4 percent
If the seven aforementioned parties all enter Parliament by exceeding 3 percent of the general vote (valid ballots), then the breakdown of Parliament seats is calculated, again based on the MRB results, as follows:
