
Over 80,000 visitors were received by Paros in May by sea and air, with the increases compared to the previous year exceeding the national average.
According to state news agency AMNA, the season for the Cycladic island had already opened last March, with the forecasts talking about maintaining traffic beyond October.
Specifically, 15,419 visitors arrived by air on 330 flights, while in May 2022, 13,094 arrived on 261 flights, marking an 18% increase.
In April 2023, the month of the Easter holidays, 8,659 visitors arrived in Paros by plane on 200 flights.
Even greater (31.5%) was the increase in coastal arrivals, which exceeded even the most optimistic forecasts.
Specifically, according to data from the Port Authority, 61,192 visitors, 4,712 vehicles, 1,455 trucks and 1,006 two-wheelers, arrived in Paros by ferry in May 2023 with 365 berths, compared to 46,495 visitors, 4,476 vehicles, 1,216 trucks and 968 of two-wheelers that had arrived during the corresponding month of 2022 with 310 ship berths. 10 cruise ships also sailed to the island disembarking 3,728 tourists.
Every year, Paros is high on the list of tourists who visit Greece to enjoy the Greek summer. At the same time, it is also one of the first choices of Greeks who choose domestic tourism.
Among the attractions that stand out are the castle of Parikia or Fragokastelo, which dominates the ancient acropolis of Paros on the hill of Agios Konstantinos, the church of Panagia Ekatontapyliani, the largest Early Christian monument in Greece that stands out for its architecture, the archaeological area of Delius Apollo and Artemis are some of the places that are worth visiting to admire them.
In addition, a walk from the Valley of the Butterflies, an area of outstanding natural beauty, the Chora of the island and the picturesque fishing villages of Naoussa and the southern side of the island is a must.
