Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was the latest intentional leader to offer his congratulations this week to re-elected Greek Premier Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The latter’s center-right New Democracy (ND) party won a second consecutive term in office with a landslide election victory (40.56 percent) on Sunday.
According to Greek government sources, two leaders expressed volition to further strengthen already excellent bilateral relations and to meet in the coming period.
Taking to Twitter, the Israeli prime minister’s office stated that both two leaders emphasized that a “a trilateral, Israel-Greece-Cyprus meeting should be held as soon as possible and emphasized that it would deal with the energy issue, among other topics.”
Mitsotakis and Netanyahu also agreed to “continue tightening bilateral cooperation in various areas including technology and artificial intelligence,” Netanyahu’s office added.
Posting on his personal Twitter account, the veteran Israeli leader stressed, “Just had a great conversation with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis of Greece, congratulating him on his impressive election win. Thrilled to announce that we’ll soon be convening leaders from Israel-Greece-Cyprus to tackle crucial matters, notably energy. Exciting times ahead!”
In a related development, the new government’s policy planks will be unveiled during a three-day Parliament plenary debate, beginning on July 6.
A vote of confidence will follow on Saturday, July 8, in the Parliament plenum.
Deputies of all parties will be sworn-in days earlier, on Monday.
