The heat wave begins today in Greece with temperatures reaching up to 40 degrees in several areas, while in the following days, with a peak on the two-day period Friday – Saturday, the mercury will climb to 44 degrees.
The “Kleon” heat wave that will sweep the country will begin to make its presence felt from today.
According to the national weather service-EMY, high temperatures will prevail mainly in the central and southern continents with maximum values
a. in the northern mainland 36 to 37 degrees and in central Macedonia 38 degrees Celsius.
b. in the rest of the mainland 38 to 39 and in the interior of Sterea and Thessaly 40 degrees Celsius.
c. in the island country 32 to 33 and in the Ionian Islands, the Dodecanese and southern Crete 35 degrees Celsius.

MACEDONIA, THRACE
Weather: Generally clear. Partly cloudy at noon – afternoon in the mountains mainly of eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
Winds: Variable 3 to 4 Beaufort and gusty in the midday and afternoon hours in maritime-coastal southerlies with the same intensity.
Temperature: From 19 to 36 to 37 and locally in central Macedonia up to 38 degrees Celsius.
IONIAN ISLANDS, EPIROS, WEST STEREA, WEST PELOPONNESE
Weather: Generally clear.
Winds: Northwest 3 to 4 and in the Ionian locally up to 5 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 20 to 35 and in continental areas 38 to 39 degrees Celsius.
THESSALY, EASTERN STERA HELLAS, EASTERN PELOPONNESE
Weather: Generally clear.
Winds: variable directions 3 to 4 Beaufort and in the east northeast temporarily up to 5 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 22 to 38 to 39 and inside Sterea and Thessaly 40 degrees Celsius.
CYCLADES, CRETE
Weather: Clear.
Winds: Northerly 4 to 6 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 24 to 33 and in southern Crete up to 35 degrees Celsius.
EAST AEGEAN ISLANDS – DODECANESE
Weather: Clear.
Winds: Northerly 5 to 6 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 24 to 33 and in the Dodecanese up to 35 degrees Celsius.
EVIA
Weather: Clear.
Winds: Northerly 3 to 4 and southerly up to 5 Beaufort, gradually becoming variable up to 4 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 22 to 36 degrees Celsius.
ATTICA
Weather: Generally clear.
Winds: Northerly 3 to 4 Beaufort and gradually variable with the same intensity.
Temperature: From 25 to 37 degrees Celsius. At the seaside, the maximum will be 2 to 3 degrees lower.
THESSALONIKI
Weather: Generally clear.
Winds: Variable 3 Beaufort and gusty in the afternoon from south directions with the same intensity.
Temperature: From 22 to 36 degrees Celsius.
The weather until Sunday
The high temperatures will continue in the following days, with the thermometer on Friday and Saturday showing 44 degrees in places.
According to the updated EMY emergency bulletin, the extended area of high pressure covering the coasts of Africa and the Western and Central Mediterranean and accompanied by very warm air masses is gradually expanding further east and causing heatwave conditions from Wednesday (12-7-2023) until early next week.
The week in detail:
1. On Wednesday (12-7-2023) high temperatures will prevail mainly in the central and southern continental regions. The maximum temperature value will reach:
a. in the northern continental regions 36 to 37 degrees and in central Macedonia 37 to 38 degrees Celsius.
b. in the rest of the mainland 38 to 39 and in the interior of Sterea and Thessaly 40 degrees Celsius.
c. in the island country 32 to 33 and in the Ionian Islands, the Dodecanese and southern Crete 35 degrees Celsius.
2. On Thursday (13-7-2023) high temperatures will prevail in almost the entire country.
a. In the northern continental regions, the maximum value of the temperature will reach 37 to 38 degrees and in central Macedonia and the interior of Epirus, 39 to 40 degrees Celsius, while its minimum values will range from 27 to 29 degrees Celsius.
b. In the rest of the mainland the maximum value of the temperature will reach 39 to 40 and in the interior of Sterea and Thessaly 41 degrees Celsius, while its minimum values will range around 28 to 30 degrees Celsius.
c. In the island country the maximum value of the temperature will reach 33 to 35 and in the Ionian islands, the islands of the eastern Aegean, the Dodecanese and southern Crete 36 to 37 degrees Celsius, while its minimum values will range from 25 to 27 Celsius degrees.
3. On Friday (14-7-2023) the high temperatures will peak.
a. In the northern continents, the maximum value of the temperature will reach 38 to 39 degrees and in central Macedonia and the interior of Epirus 40 to 41 degrees Celsius while its minimum values will range around 28 to 30 degrees Celsius.
b. In the rest of continental Greece, the maximum value of the temperature will reach 40 to 41, in the interior of Sterea, 41 to 42 and in the interior of Thessaly, 43 degrees Celsius, while its minimum values will range from 28 to 31 degrees Celsius.
c. In the island country the maximum value of the temperature will reach 35 to 36 and in the Ionian islands, the islands of the eastern Aegean, the Dodecanese and southern Crete 37 to 40 degrees Celsius, while its minimum values will range from 27 to 29 Celsius degrees.
4. On Saturday (15-7-2023) very high temperatures will persist.
a. In the northern mainland, the maximum value of the temperature will reach 38 to 39 degrees and in central Macedonia and the interior of Epirus, 40 to 41 degrees Celsius, while the minimum values will be around 30 degrees Celsius.
b. In the rest of the mainland, 40 to 41, in the interior of Sterea and Peloponnese, 41 to 42 and in the interior of Thessaly, 43 degrees Celsius, while the minimum values will range from 29 to 31 degrees Celsius.
c. In the islands 36 to 37 and in the Ionian islands, the islands of the eastern Aegean, the Dodecanese and southern Crete 38 to 39 degrees Celsius, while the minimum values will be around 28 to 30 degrees Celsius.
5. On Sunday (16-7-2023) a slight drop in temperature is predicted, mainly in the north
a. In the northern continental regions, the maximum value of the temperature will reach 36 to 37 degrees and in central Macedonia and the interior of Epirus, 38 degrees Celsius, while its minimum values will range around 26 to 28 degrees Celsius.
b. In the rest of the continent, 38 to 39, in the interior of Sterea and in the interior of Thessaly, 40 to 41 degrees Celsius, while its minimum values will be around 28 to 30 degrees Celsius.
c. In the island country 35 to 36 and in the Ionian islands, the islands of the eastern Aegean, the Dodecanese and southern Crete 37 to 38 degrees Celsius, while its minimum values will range from 27 to 29 degrees Celsius.
6. According to the latest forecast data, on Monday (17-7-2023) a small but temporary drop in temperature is predicted.
