“The government’s goal is to further strengthen Civil Aviation”, said the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Staikouras after the meeting he had with the Executive Director of the European Aviation Safety Agency, Patrick Key.
As the minister emphasized: “We have already made it clear from our programmatic statements that we prioritize the upgrade of the air traffic control system and the reorganization of the Civil Aviation Authority. In close cooperation with the European Security Agency, the new data that emerged during the pandemic period were evaluated. At the same time, we are dealing directly, responsibly and effectively with pending issues and new challenges in view of the rapid increase in tourism in our country.”
Air Traffic Control System Upgrade
The minister added: “We are undertaking specific initiatives to strengthen the operation of the Civil Aviation Authority, but also to support the Civil Aviation Service. We are upgrading the Air Traffic Control System, while by the end of the year we are introducing a bill for the new agency of the U.S.A.”
For his part, the Executive Director of the European Aviation Safety Agency pointed out that “with Mr. Staikouras we had a very open and positive discussion regarding the challenges that we must face in the near future in order to improve the level of aviation in Hellas”.
