The Greek government on Monday afternoon announced the opening of an online platform for citizens and businesses to file damage claims related to the massive flooding in Thessaly over the past week.
The platform arogi.gov.gr is open to applicants located in Magnesia, Trikala and Karditsa prefectures, while applicants in Fthiotida and Larissa prefectures can file claims as of Wednesday.
In a related development, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will fly to Strasbourg on Tuesday at the head of a delegation of ministers to meet with European Union officials over the issue of emergency aid following the devastating floods in Greece.
Mitsotakis will first meet with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, followed by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
In statements on Monday, Metsola said during her meeting with Mitsotakis she will reiterate the European Parliament’s solidarity to Greece and its people.
She underlined that extreme weather has affected large swathes of Europe and caused extensive damage, destruction and deaths, while major wildfires and floods have plagued Spain, Bulgaria, Slovenia and Italy.
On Monday Mitsotakis toured the wildfire-ravaged prefecture of Evros, in extreme northeast Greece.
