The relevant energy and environment ministry on Friday announced the long-awaited approval of environmental conditions for a bevy of improvements and expansion projects at the Port of Piraeus, the biggest and busiest in Greece.

The development removes another hurdle before the Cosco-managed facility, in its bid to expand a passenger terminal, transform another warehouse into a cruise passenger terminal, field floating repair docks and to dredge the main port to make it deeper.

Other projects include the building of new offices at the container terminal zone and even a new underground road for new vehicle imports. A new high-voltage and medium-voltage substation also received an environmental conditions clearance.

Additional, non-port projects include the transformation of an early 20th century stone warehouse into a museum as well as operation of a museum of underwater antiquities.
